Friends Bookstore.
The Friends of the Central Library manage book sales for the benefit of the Central Library. The Friends Bookstore is located on the first floor of the library and is open six days a week. The Bookstore sells a wide assortment of fiction and nonfiction, mysteries, science fiction, children’s books, art, architecture, crafts, humor, travel, reference, business, cooking, history, psychology, biography, classics, audiobooks, DVDs, and more. New items are added daily. The Central Library Friends Bookstore is managed and staffed by volunteers; 100% of the bookstore’s revenue is used to support the Central Library.
Become a Bookstore Volunteer
The Friends of the Central Library are seeking volunteers to work in the Friends’ Bookstore. We are looking for people who can work 2-5 hours during the day, weekly or monthly. Bookstore volunteers greet customers, help them find books, and handle sales. They are responsible for keeping the bookshelves filled and organized, and setting up special displays. Some volunteers also handle and sort incoming book donations. We welcome outgoing, organized people to staff the Bookstore; and also need volunteers to sort and shelve books behind the scenes outside of bookstore hours, as well as to help with online sales. If you are interested in volunteering, please call the bookstore at 619-238-6655, stop by and fill out an application, or Click Here for an online volunteer application form. An interview will be conducted to match potential volunteers to current opportunities.
Shop Online
Friends members and book lovers from around the world can discover thousands of titles on our Amazon bookstore. The online bookstore offers specialty books (e.g. railroading, aviation, medicine, numismatics); art and museum publications; collectible comics; California history and Americana; signed special editions; early edition children’s books; academic texts; and antiquarian and out-of-print books. Many of the books in our online bookstore have come from specialty collector’s libraries that have been donated to the Friends. By offering these books online, the Friends can find the best homes for unusual and rare books while raising funds for the Library. A team of volunteers evaluates, lists, and ships our specialty books; new titles are added every week.
